Taxes on the Wealthy Have Plunged-Graph

Doesn't this just say it all...in terms of US debt and so many poor folks falling between the cracks of the crumbling infrastructure of a nation that was once united?
Republicans today scoff at and rail against the spirit put forth by the founders of this country...
"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."
July 4th 1776 The Declaration of Independence:

  1. You're an idiot. STOP looking at tax rates without understanding deductions. Also STOP looking at tax rates and look at REVENUE, then look at SPENDING.

In addition, STOP using that phrase from the Declaration of Independence. You have no idea what it means and it certainly doesn't mean what you imply.

Lastly, STOP ac ting like the earnings of others all belongs to the DAMN FUCKING COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT YOU SUPPORT.

It's you and your ilk that are destroying this nation and the ideals set forth by the very Declaration you quote. Read it sometime and if you don't understand it ask for help.

The fact is that the rich and poor got richer from 1940-80 when we had far higher tax rates on the wealthy BECAUSE we invested in roads and rail and communications and we MADE A BETTER MOUSE TRAP (so to speak).

We made a stronger nation with a stronger economy and we all profited from it!

    2. Once again, we have no money to invest in anything because we spend it all on social welfare programs. We have to borrow to run the military and government.

When will you understand that NO ONE paid those high rates?

  3. It doesn't really say much at all. I agree that just looking at the headline rate without understanding all of the loopholes and deductions that were available back doesn't make a lot of sense.

Right now we have a huge unemployment problem and I am very skeptical at how raising my taxes is going to help those in the lowest income brackets. If the government actually wanted to do a direct transfer out of my checking account into a welfare person's checking account, I'd be all for it. We'd actually be helping people. But instead the potential extra revenue from higher taxes just goes into the government big spending machine and that scares me.

We need fiscal policies that will create new jobs for the unemployed and create better paying jobs for those earning less than their potential. I don't see higher taxes as the fix for that.

  4. Odd that you quote the Declaration of Independence while championing higher taxes. One of the reasons given in the Declaration for revolting was taxes:

"For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:"

In fact, many of the grievances listed could easily be applied to Obama and the democrats today.

  5. Did anyone ever think that in a robust economy we ALL benefit? The middle class are being slowly eradicated with the sights set on the rich next. Once the rich are eradicated, all belongs to the government at which point we all will be dependent on same.

    2. Right. Because of the economy. Again in a robust economy we ALL benefit.
