First, we know he's still lying about his own taxes because he won't show the evidence he says he has to back up his claim. And since that makes him look so horribly dishonest there can be no other possible reason for Romney to hide his returns other than the fact that they would make him look bad in any number of ways.
As Ezra Klein points out "Among the Americans who paid no federal income taxes in 2011, 61 percent paid payroll taxes — which means they have jobs and, when you account for both sides of the payroll tax, they paid 15.3 percent of their income in taxes, which is higher than the 13.9 percent that Romney paid." And 13.9% isn't jack for someone making his kind of money.
But here's how the BIG LIE really works...Romney NEVER SAID he payed a minimum of 13% FEDERAL Income Tax, he says he paid 13% of his income in TAXES. I know well how this little shell game is played from listening to the hate-radio hosts who back Romney. It's a common practice in these circles to speak of 'taxes' in the most universal sense. When Hannity or Limbaugh refer to their tax rates they INCLUDE, State Taxes, Payroll Taxes, Sales Taxes, Property Taxes and every penny for every toll road, parking meter and hunting, fishing or marriage license they've ever bought.
I bet $10,000 that is exactly what Romney is doing here. He won't show his returns because they will prove he did indeed pay zero taxes some years and/or may have payed more in taxes in some foreign nation from oversees holdings than in the USA! And the paltry 13.9% he claims to have paid was not in actual Federal Income Tax!
Governor Romney-We want to see your Tax Returns. The issue isn't over and it isn't going away. Your father walked the same path as you did as a Governor and presidential candidate and he demanded that any viable candidate should show at least ten years of returns to prove how he had comported himself financially as a citizen of the USA.
