Caterpillar Corporation just moved a plant from Japan to Georgia-USA, prime reason being, because of our Savannah Port expansion for the new generation of supertankers coming out now.
This port expansion was funded by Federal and State dollars and wouldn't have happened otherwise.
So yeah! Caterpillar didn't build that new factory in Georgia by its self, the citizens of the United States of America helped big time!

Thanks for this bit of new information, DD. I'm a Georgian, and I had heard about the money GA and SC received to improve their ports, but I hadn't heard that Caterpillar had moved its plant from Japan back to GA. When it was announced that GA and SC would receive these funds, I was mildly surprised when some republican politicians gave him credit for it. Anyone who doesn't think that the government plays a role in helping them establish a business is either not aware of it or is being partisan for the sake of being partisan. Former Republican Senator Alan Simpson said last week that he doesn't understand why republicans are opposing the cuts to the defense budget that they agreed to, but he thinks that it's because the republicans think they can "get the president" by doing it. I think the same game is being played by republicans who refuse to admit that the president didn't tell business owners that they didn't build their own businesses. They're being deliberately obtuse to "get" the president. These people have no shame. They're unethical, they're liars, and they're hypocrites, but none of this matters to them as long as they win in November.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right majii.
DeleteThere's that old saying 'If you want a friend in Washington DC get a dog.' But the fact of the matter is that the Republicans have raised the bar on hateful rhetoric and obstructionism under President Obama. Whether it's Joe Wilson yelling at the prez as he addressed congress or their creating the 60 vote barrier in the Senate to even bring a bill to the floor. Thank goodness that some old fashioned conservatives like Simpson are calling them out. It was also a glimmer of hope that McConnell let the tax bill be voted on without the 60. I take some comfort in reading how harsh they sere vs FDR as a sign that it is possible to get through these tough times without revolution! Peace
