President Obama Beats Reagan-Georgia Jobs #

Put Georgia down as a swing state!

As the story below (from CBS Atlanta) details, President Obama has presided over the largest drop in unemployment in Georgia since 1977! And don't think that Georgia is one of those southern states whose leadership stupidly turned down federal grants and loans. Far from it.

As Liberal as I am, I'm proud that our Republican Governor and US Senators weren't 'too proud to beg' for help from the Obama administration during these trying times. Most recently we secured a great deal of federal support allowing us to dredge the Savanah harbor to ready it for a new generation of super-tankers. Wise indeed.

And don't forget, President Obama received 47% of the vote Georgia in the 2008 general election! Since then we've gained one additional US House seat, mostly based on the growth of our burgeoning Hispanic community.

Mr. President, as Ray Charles would say 'Keep Georgia on your mind!'

Georgia unemployment down for third consecutive month:

By Melissa Roberts - CBS ATLANTA
Georgia's jobless rate was down to 9.7% in December, which represents the largest two-month drop in unemployment since 1977, according to the Department of Labor.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the seasonally adjusted rate was down from 9.7% in November. A year ago, it was 10.4%.
"The rate declined because 11,500 Georgians went back to work in December," said Butler, "plus, we saw some increases in employment in areas that have been especially hard hit."
The DOL said the construction industry added 600 new jobs, which is the first time this has happened in December since 2003. New jobs in manufacturing, information services, and trade and transportation jobs also contributed to the increase.
Butler also said that despite these gains, there were 7,300 less jobs overall in the state, one-half of which were the result of the loss of seasonal jobs.
The number of long-term unemployed workers was down 3,800 from November to December, the fewest number since October of 2010.
"This is great news for our state, particularly for Georgians who have faced a tough job market for several years now," said Gov. Nathan Deal. "A decrease in unemployment alongside a number of other positive economic indicators suggests we are heading in the right direction."
