A Walk With MLK-My proudest day.
One bright morning when I was a 12 year old boy living in Sandy Springs GA, my mother June announced to my younger brother and sister and me that we weren't going to school that day. She told us to dress nice and get in the car. We only found out as we were leaving the house that we were going to march in Martin Luther King's funeral procession.
It was a short quiet drive. I don't care for crowds and I was worried that this was going to be a long hard sermon to listen to, but I knew we were doing the right thing. We had mostly grown up in the poorer parts of various southern towns and we were used to both colors of people sharing the streets, but this was an amazing feeling to be the only people of one color we saw in such a large crowd. I wasn't surprised at how warm and comfortable it felt. And I realized immediately what a good idea Momma had to come there.
The entire walk and service seem like a beautiful, if melancholy dream. Never had we felt such an outpouring of peace and goodwill through such sadness. All of us have shared our memories over the years, many times. The whole event passed like a song, but midway through my younger brother, only 8, began fidgeting, being so short he was staring at people's stomachs and bored. Then slowly and quietly, without a word, a tall strong man standing behind Steve reached down and picked him up over his head and gently placed him on his shoulders so he could see. Steve was quietly mesmerized and still says it was the most amazing experience he ever had to be lifted up over the crowd and to watch the whole panorama from his private box.
It was a small piece of heaven on earth that the reverend brought to all of us there that day. My mother and sister and brother and I all agree that was all of our proudest day. Not for anything we've done to help with King's cause, but what we did for ourselves by being there. It changed us. It was a religious experience.
When I see pictures of the good doctor and his statue on the mall, he is very real to me. He is still alive, I'm sure of it.
And I wouldn't be at all surprised if he came back one bright morning.

ReplyDeleteAmazing how you claim to be a "Christian" yet want the government to forcibly take from others to give to you. Jealousy seems to be quite a trait with liberals.
No human being truly 'owns' any of God's green earth. We are all stewards and we must share. World history is filled with counless tragic bloody revolutions where the poor were so desperately miserable that they united and tore up all laws and deeds and killed the powerful and restarted their society. Unless rich people realize this and give back and share through fair taxes and investment in the public then violent revolution is inevitable. A deed on land is only as real as the common people's view of its fairness.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, jealousy will be your undoing. The Marxists know they can use it to their advantage. Look at all the code words they employ to stir jealousy within you ... fairness, equality, social justice, income equality (whatever the hell that is).
ReplyDeleteNot once do you or your fellow Marxists speak of equality of effort, or working hard, or personal responsibility. It's always the other guys fault that you're not rich. Marxist propaganda has twisted your brain and consumed you with hatred, jealousy and fear.
Because their propaganda has been so successful you now covet those things which you have not earned.

You simply do not understand what America is. For the first time in history people were free and regardless of the circumstances of their birth had the chance to do or become anything they desired ... as long as they worked hard for what they wanted.
Now your vision of America is one where the government is the master and will take and redistribute to those who vote to keep it in power. That's all this is. Forcibly taking from some people to buy the votes of others and in the process destroy the one nation where anyone could do anything.
Good work comrade. Your greed, jealousy and blatant ignorance will have killed the greatest and freest nation that ever existed all so you could get free stuff at the expense of others.

ReplyDeleteFact: We spend virtually all tax revenue on social programs ... increasing from 10% in 1940 to 100% in 2011. That why we borrow to run the government, pay Congress and Obama and run the military.
Fact: You could double the tax rate and still not have enough. Of course you could only do this once because most businesses would fold and most evil rich people would flee the country.
Fact: People are not equal. The government cannot make them equal. There will always be stupid people, there will always be smart people, there will always be lazy people, there will always be hard working people, there will always be dishonest people, there will always be honest people, there will always be irresponsible people and there will always be responsible people. The government cannot change that by stealing from one group to give to the other.
Fact: The only way you'll ever end "inequality" is to understand there is no such thing as inequality. Since no two people are equal no one can be "unequal". It's simply propaganda made up to make the weak minded jealous and covet what has been earned by others.

ReplyDeleteMillions of lower income and middle class people own property. You want to take that away from them? A farm that has been in someone's family for generations now belongs to the "common people" because they're too stupid and lazy to work to save up money to buy their own home or farm?
You do understand the abolishment of private property is a key tenet of Marxism ... right?

Third, we didn't spend almost all tax revenue on social programs. We had money to spend on not only running the government but other things as well like going to the moon. Today we'd have to borrow to do that.
