The NRA and 'small government' Conservatives are directly to blame for every one of these tragic mass shootings.
They stand in the way of sane gun laws and background checks and innocent people die for their paranoid fear of government. Gabby Gifford's assailant would have never passed a proper mental health screening and neither would the Navy Yard shooter who bought his shotgun in gun-loving Virginia. Adam Lanza should have had to pass a mental health check and be licensed to borrow his mother's weapons and Mrs. Lanza should have known that there were laws (which we need) making her culpable for any damage done by her own weapons, in someone else's hands. That would have given her second thoughts.
And too, if 'small gov cons' weren't so intent on dissolving our government and creating their own private fiefdoms then the military would be far better funded and could spend more on the proper security and mental health care needed to stop shootings like the ones at the Navy Yard and Fort Hood. Instead they are forced to shrivel under the Republican sequester.
What a tragedy and it's so sad how far we've gone in the wrong direction since our forefathers penned these immortal words...

So, what gun laws are lacking in Washington DC that could have prevented this shooting if implemented? Washington D.C already has the strictest gun control policies in the country; the place where this horrible crime was committed was a "Gun Free Zone" and the perp did not even have his own weapons, he took them from the cops on scene.

There is a motive behind every crime, even suicide, or homicidal suicide and too there is a solution to even the most complex security dilemma,
We can do infinitely more to help people who are so depressed that they want to die and they want the whole world to die. Money can do a lot of good things, but we need more of it.
It is also the case that every tragedy has a price-tag solution on its head. There are doable security measures that would have stopped every one of these mass killings, including 9-11.
