Federal Funding for Storm Shelters

STORM SHELTERS FOR OKLAHOMA SCHOOLS AND HOMES
WRITE IT
PASS IT
MAKE IT LAW.
I have to focus on the politics of this Tornado Tragedy in Oklahoma because...
THE SOULS OF THE LOST CHILDREN CRY OUT FOR IT!
IT COSTS ABOUT $500 PER PERSON TO BUILD SAFE UNDERGROUND STORM SHELTERS!
Storm Shelters, which are far smaller and less expensive than basements, are almost 100% safe even under the worst circumstances. I have priced these in the Moore area and the average cost is about $500 per occupant of the shelter. I think that if you put it in those terms it makes sense for the state to require shelters and there should be federal assistance.
America has seen more than seven decades of explosive growth in our country making us the world's biggest economy! But the last three decades of growth have been since we cut the tax rates on the super-rich to one third what they were before 1980!

Not only have we been forced to cut back on creating new and needed infrastructure projects but we've all but stopped maintaining the infrastructure we have in many cases! Decades ago these communities in Oklahoma (that we see torn to shreds today) were largely unpopulated. They were just family farms without towns and cities and THE FAMILY FARMS HAD STORM SHELTERS! But in the USA today we have proceeded to grow exponentially while cutting taxes on the rich and counting on 'raw capitalism' to keep us safe. IT DOES NOT!

In the year of our lord, 2013, in the greatest nation on earth, by God, we can afford to publicly fund the building of good and safe storm shelters for all large schools and public buildings (in Tornado Alley's) and supplement large commercial enterprises thusly.

We owe it to the memories of these lost children....God bless.

  1. No matter how you feel about Man-Made-Climate-Change TORNADO ALLEY had its name before any MMCC occurred. Back in the 1930's Tornado Alley was far less populated and the majority of the farms and homesteads DID HAVE STORM SHELTERS. Remember the Wizard of Oz? The Storm Shelter was not fiction!

The fact is that since the 1980s tax cuts on the wealthy and the coming of 'dog eat dog' global capitlism we no longer invest in safe modern infrastructure and sadly, in places like Moore OK life has become 'too cheap' for us to pay the cost (less than $1000 per person) to build safe underground Storm Shelters!

  2. The government gives hundreds of billion of dollars, maybe trillions in subsidies to large companies. They have to have the political will to fund storm shelters. It seems congress is only listening to the corporate America and not the voters. Congress always seems to follow the money--the same with the national news media.
