That basically sums up the choice facing the American people in November.
It would be funny if it weren't so sad, the way right wingers actually act OFFENDED at the mention of Bin Laden being brought to justice by the Obama administration. Good lord, you would think PBO had dressed up in a Navy Seal uniform and landed in a strike-helicopter on a US aircraft carrier stationed in the Middle East! No, President Obama is not dumb or self important.
All presidents get credit for what happens on their watch, good and bad, fair or not. We all praise FDR for leading us through WWII though he shed no blood and fired no weapon. Likewise JFK for leading the USA to the moon, from the grave! Truthfully, president Obama deserves a lot of credit for bringing the worlds worst super-terrorist to justice after more than a decade of his mocking the world and continuing his evil plots. And not one of PBO's critics will question the fact that it was his choice alone as to whether to send in a missile strike, killing innocent people and destroying all evidence and proof, versus sending in the Brave Navy Seals. He did the right thing and I hope he payed no attention to the fact that the first option was politically safe for him personally and the second might have made him look terrible.
While President Obama was immersed in dealing with that issue and simultaneously managing a Republican created national economic crisis, Mitt Romney was undoubtedly pulling a lot of tough all-nighters going over his tax returns in an effort to find just the right words to explain to the American people why he would refuse to release almost any of them while his dad (Republican presidential nominee George Romney) had set the standard in 1968 by releasing 12 years of his returns and saying that only through such full disclosure could the public fairly judge how a person had comported themselves in their financial dealings. Mitt, the apple who fell from that tree obviously rolled down a long hill.
Romney's 13% Rate-How the Lie Works
First, we know he's still lying because he won't show the evidence he says he has to back up his claim.
Second 13% isn't jack for someone making his kind of money, but he slips that in next to claims he paid zero to soften the blow.
But here's how the BIG LIE really works...Romney NEVER SAID he payed a minimum of 13% FEDERAL Income Tax, he says he paid 13% of his income in TAXES. I know well how this little shell game is played from listening to the hate-radio hosts who back Romney. It's a common practice in these circles to speak of 'taxes' in the most universal sense. When Hannity or Limbaugh refer to their tax rates they INCLUDE, State Taxes, Payroll Taxes, Sales Taxes, Property Taxes and every penny for every toll road, parking meter and hunting, fishing or marriage license they've ever bought.
I bet $10,000 that is exactly what Romney is doing here. He won't show his returns because they will prove he did indeed pay zero taxes some years and that he NEVER paid even the paltry 13% he claims in actual Federal Income Tax!
