Even though society has always managed (eventually) to take baby steps forward, it does worry me, that in our present economic dire straits (nationally and globally) the film and music industry are doing almost nothing to speak directly to the issues at hand. Having become a Turner Classic junkie I have noticed that there were dozens of great, some classic, films made in the 1930s, 40s and 50s which focused STRICTLY on our economic plight from the working class perspective...Whether totally serious, like The Grapes of Wrath and many others, or lighthearted, but poignant as in My Man Godfrey...Back then our arts community and even Hollywood focused on the important issues of the day. But today they don't. It is worrisome as to how our populous can unite with no popular media describing life as it is....
