Far-Right-Radio argues that healthcare isn't a right, so society shouldn't be required to assist those who can't afford it. But that's not true...it is the bill described below, which was signed by Prez-Reagan that forces society as a whole to bear the brunt of unpaid bills left by the uninsured. When the Far-Right says 'the gov. can't force you to buy something', they're wrong, in this law the gov. forced us to buy healthcare FOR OTHER PEOPLE, INCLUDING THOSE WHO COULD HAVE AFFORDED INSURANCE! That's why government has the right and need to improve the system and make it cost effective...
From Wiki-Answers:
'Any hospital that accepts Medicare -- that that's all of them -- must treat anyone who walks into their emergency room regardless of ability to pay, insurance or even citizenship.' 'That means the rest of us with commercial insurance are unfairly over-charged because of the irresponsible people who don't want insurance.'
Search Wiki for Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor ActEMTALA), passed in 1986 at the request of President Ronald Reagan.
