He is for me and more...
Yes, it is sadly fair to say that this president I strongly support presides, still today, over a nation responsible for terrible breaches of conscience and morals. Our continued extra-legal internments as part of the war on terrorist networks and the crimes committed by our soldiers in battle, primarily and I would add the lives ruined in our utterly indefensible drug war to the list.
But in this world which can seem beautiful, but which is filled with horrors and chaos in many places and times, even these flaws must be measured against the positive slate of accomplishments.
In my opinion, the most evil thing on the face of the earth in 2008 (and on 9-11) was the horrific torture mill of the Mubarak regime in Egypt. This is where the filthiest rulers in the Middle East and around the world (yes here too) sent their political enemies for treatment, so godawful, such things have never been portrayed in even the darkest of violent cinema. It was that bad and it was gigantic, a satanic corporation if there ever was one. It has been reported that seeing their friends and brothers returned home from the Egyptian prisons, as drooling schizophrenic vegetables, is what hardened Bin Laden's heart and too his whole clan.
This regime was so vile that one could easily blame the president for not attacking it and freeing the people on day one of his presidency. President Obama gave a speech in Cairo in 2009. Between then and the Egyptian Revolution countless evil acts continued and even increased. Even now we can't say the president did enough or soon enough, but I'm glad things got a lot better there.
President Obama spoke of free speech and human rights in Cairo and when the people stood up, he had their backs. I don't think another president would have done that, or whether the world would have, without his leadership. I know the people would have won out eventually, but if Mr. Obama had chosen the path well tread, we would be looking at a continuing bloodbath in Egypt today.
Yes, Afghanistan is a tragic situation and there are others. But if anybody tries to tell you it doesn't matter if Obama is re-elected, they're just wrong.
