Debt Ceiling Repair

The Simple Truth is...
life is not simple

and that's a fact. We all wish it was but it's not and we just about shoot ourselves in the foot every time we jolt too strongly in one direction or the other. There are gigantic emergencies like the Great Depression and World War II that called for big social moves like the drastic increase on taxation of the wealthy (up to 70% to 90%) but that was largely due to WWII. We kept those taxes for a few more decades and that revenue allowed us to do most of the great industrial accomplishments in the history of our country from 1940-1980. We dropped the taxes as severely as we'd raised them in 1980, but we've gotten by fine, but we have fallen into debt and let our infrastructure get run down and out dated. We have to fix ourselves up and modernize as a nation and there are some projects so large that they must be led by a government. How do you think we did it before and how Germany and China do it today? You don't have to be a communist to have a great railroad.

You know corporate America has moved so much of its operation to China you wonder whether they wouldn't rather let the Chinese run the US government...how un-simple is that calculation politically with no limits on campaign donations?

But my biggest point is that we all, on the Left and the Right need to remember that it is most important to realise that we will never be right forever...life is that complicated. For the religious person who understandably feels there is 'right and wrong' and there are universal truths, I agree with you on that. I'm sure you feel that your political views in many ways represent your moral views, that is a good and a fine thing and I feel the same way. We both feel that by doing the right thing as a society we are in some way helping to carry out God's will on earth...thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. How simple is that to do? To usher in the Kingdom of God?

The monarchs who enslaved multitudes during biblical times were nothing much different than those who had become so powerful that they could control the laws themselves, so yes there is good reason to not allow that to happen today. We do know that only God and Jesus (and pick your favorite other prophet) have withstood the urge to abuse their power over others.

So first can we all stop pretending that we know 'exactly the absolute right thing that we have to do this second'...You name the issue and there is a lot of room for improvement, but while I say we need more revenue from those who can afford it to strengthen our nation, I know that I don't know for sure the exact tax that should be levied on the upper 2%, but I do suggest that that is where the extra tax money should come from. The upper 2% of income earners should help us out some now. Even if they only went up to say 43% for ten years. That would really help us now.

Oh, and to even things out...Hey Global Warming Crowd, while you may be right about the concept of GW you have no scientific data to predict specific changes tied to dates within 1000 years accuracy. Fact. So I think you should really focus on the technologies that will have a positive effect on GW.
