Everything we do affects us all

I'M RUNNING FOR CONGRESS V PAUL BROUN 10TH GA...

IN MY DREAMS...

My name is Chip Shirley 'aka' The Dixie Dove (my real name is James Thomas Shirley III). I live in Athens GA and I'm from Greenville South Carolina.

I would love to take on Paul Broun in a 'reality based' campaign in the 10th, but as a UGA employee I am bound by my Board of Regents contract not to seek statewide or federal office.

Oh well. I do plan on asking the BOR for a waiver based on the fact that modern internet communications have made it possible for a candidate for any public office to effectively promote their campaign without the rigorous traveling and promotional costs which were a fact of life when this requirement was put into affect.

In other words...I could run a viable campaign for this regional office without having to neglect my job; I would adhere to my work schedule and engage in no [None] campaign related activities at my work site.

Let's hope they go for it!

HAPPY NEW YEAR...

  1. RE: Employee of UGA ...

    Which Department?

    What Capacity?

Only ask because you come back as "not found" when searching UGA Employee Directory ...

Hoping you're not just another bogus pipe dream ...

  2. Well...I have been a full time employee there for ten years, still am. I know how to log-in to my personal work acct. but I've never searched the web-site to see how my name might be found. To tell you the truth, I did say at the top that I was running 'in my dreams' and I meant that, because I am legally bound (as I said) by my contract not to seek federal office. The last thing I would do is to associate my employer with my political interests. And too, frankly I am not a high level employee. If I were able to run I would only attempt to attract support based on my political thoughts and ideas, not based on my work record, as I do not work in a leadership position and my job is basic clerical in nature.

It is my goal to try and find a way to seek federal office, this is a very preliminary broaching of the subject to guage potential support. I would also be very interested if anyone had any information concerning other state universities and their policies along these lines.
    Thanks for your interest though!
    Chip 'The Dixie Dove' Shirley
